Hi! I’m JoCarmel ... FullTime Nurse who loves quilting. My great-grandmother, Arminta was the quilter in our family. She was born and raised in rural Mississippi in the late 1890’s. She owned farmland and picked cotton to make a way for her family. However, my grandmother and my mother had no desire to pick cotton nor make quilts "slave work", so it was not handed down. In 2018, a fellow nurse taught me how to sew and the joy of creating quilts blossomed. We spent 2 days in her beautiful log cabin home and I’ve been hooked ever since, lol. I’m forever grateful to Sherry, but my husband… not so much, because I’ve become a fabricolic, quiltolic, sewolic & my new bucklist cities all include quilt show events, lol.

The goal of Quilts-by-Carmel is to share the love and art of quilting with others and hopefully inspire others to honor & share the story of their ancestors who made quilts out of necessity, warmth or for just pure joy. These women/men have paved the way to some of the freedoms and benefits we have today and we can honor them by reigniting and teaching our children the love of quilting.
